The alumina project in Bintan Industrial Park, Indonesia is a landmark project for Nanshan Aluminum to "go overseas". In October 2017, the park where the project is located was approved by the Indonesian government to establish the Karangbatang Special Economic Zone, becoming the twelfth special economic zone in Indonesia and the first special economic zone in Indonesia to be granted development and management by Chinese companies. At present, the 2 million tons of alumina project built by Nanshan Aluminum in Indonesia is in full production throughout the year and has strong profitability. In addition, relying on the first-mover advantage of industrial layout, Nanshan Aluminum further invested in expanding the new 2 million tons of alumina production capacity, and planned to build an electrolytic aluminum project with an annual output of 1 million tons in phases, and continued to expand its overseas industrial territory. Nanshan Aluminum has seized the opportunity of the "Belt and Road" construction and "copied" the chain operation model of raw material bases, processing links, and terminal products abroad. In December 2018, Nanshan Aluminum raised funds to build a 1 million ton alumina project in Indonesia. After several years of construction, the Bintan Nanshan Industrial Park is currently being built in Indonesia. It has been put into production in accordance with the "port-power center-alumina-electrolytic aluminum-aluminum processing" industrial model. It has now fully built an alumina plant, power plant, and coal-to-gas plant with an annual output of 2 million tons, as well as supporting construction of a port with an annual throughput of 20 million tons. The long-term plan is to rebuild a complete aluminum processing industry chain in the same region of Indonesia, including 2 million tons of alumina and supporting projects, 1 million tons of electrolytic aluminum supporting projects, and 500,000 tons of aluminum processing materials projects.
